EX-1 (an export declaration) is a generally accepted international document that confirms the export of goods from the territory of the EU (European Union). The declaration contains detailed information about the product, its quantity, origin, value, as well as about the exporter and importer.

The EX-1 is drawn up by the manufacturer of the goods or by the customs office that has a license. The export declaration is issued electronically. On the basis of the declaration, the customs office determines which customs duties and taxes must be paid and also checks compliance with all other requirements for the export of goods.

When the goods are transported outside the borders of the European Union, a copy of the EX-1 declaration with an individual number and barcode is provided to the customs authorities. The supplier of the goods is automatically reimbursed for VAT, which is initially not taken into account.

The export declaration accompanies only goods of European origin transported across the customs borders of the EU. All EX-1 declarations are in the EU electronic database.

The EX-1 not only confirms the legitimacy of the export of goods, but is also the basis for the coordination of customs and trade procedures. Drawing up an export declaration requires compliance with clear norms and rules established by the legislation of the exporting country.
